Scroll lighting

Cats: Interesting Reads| 1 Comment »

So we’re loving our new home but the lighting in the bath is all done with the scroll energy saving bulbs. I’ll tell you what, they might save energy but…they suck when it comes to giving off good light. So, we’re getting new bathroom lighting and it won’t include scroll light bulbs. We can do cute, we can do plain…we can do any kind of lighting but we won’t be doing the scroll lighting.

The art of blogging

Yes, I enjoy blogging but not sure how many of you read my blogs or have interest in what I write…no matter, it’s more for my pleasure, kind of like an online diary but nothing very private ;-) I just found a site that has website directories that only charges $2.99 for blog hosting. I know I get a great deal with my current host but this site is really inexpensive. It’s not a big difference but when you have several blogs going it can mount to a great savings. It’s always worth a look, right?

Comfortable in your skin

I’m still pretty fortunate to not have gained any of the weight I lost back since I returned from my sisters. I have a friend that looked to to weight loss austin style. Not sure what that involved but I know she came back happy, healthy and she’d lost weight. Whatever way we can, losing weight is good for us but…can be an uphill battle. I’m thinking that if we are happy with ourselves, happy in our own skin, no matter what the size or color, weight loss will be a very minor part of our lives. Now, to get that comfy feeling.

The big move!

The big move to our new villa is now behind us…thank goodness. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that it’s easier in the heat of summer versus the cold of winter. The good thing about this move? The pool. As soon as my hubby and I had everything dropped off - we dropped into the pool. What a great reward.

We now have an extra bedroom and are looking to make it into a guest room and an office.  We want to get some office furniture that will blend with the bedroom furniture….so, we’re shopping, mostly online. It’s great when you can get ideas just by browsing ;-)

;-) Smile

Geeez, why couldn’t I have waited a few years to get braces and Plano porcelain veneers!!!? I waited until I was 40 but I could have waited another 17 years and done it the new way. It’s so much less expensive and looks so awesome! Actually, I probably would have never even needed braces…I could have just one for the veneers. I remember during high school, I didn’t like my smile…do you know I practiced every single day smiling so that my teeth didn’t look so big. Now…they’re pretty perfect - and I have a great smile!

My camera broke ;-(

My new camera had something happen to it last week but it’s still under warranty - thank goodness. It’s a Sony so I was very surprised but…Sony came through and said that they’d fix it and return in within 6 days. It’s that amazing? Of course, they use fulfillment services to get their packages to the people right away. My son should have it by next Wednesday! Now, I have to figure out how to get it here. I’m thinking I call their fulfillment service company since they work with any size order. Hopefully, it’s cheaper than the company I used to send it to them.

Changin’ times

Again, with getting an insurance quote; I remember my insurance days and picking up the phone and hearing the voice on the other end saying, “Can I get an insurance quote?” Of course, back then it wasn’t as easy as it is today. Today, we can go to our nearest home computer and get any quote we want. That’s pretty cool. We don’t even need to call an insurance agent - we can look it all up online all by ourselves. Times - they are a changin’.

Living life on purpose

Cats: Interesting Reads| No Comments »

When was the last time you got a term life insurance quote? We’re all living at such fast paces we forget…sometimes tomorrow doesn’t come. My hubby has the perfect outlook on life…well, perfect for him and I admire him for it. He looks at his life as though it could end tomorrow. He wants to enjoy the ride - all the way. He doesn’t do crazy things (usually) but he enjoys today and gives each day all that he has. Yes, he hopes for tomorrow and makes plans for it…but just in case, he makes sure that today is lived ‘on purpose’.

Do NOT work at Wal-Mart!

Cats: Health and Beauty| No Comments »
I have a dear friend, “Sharon”, that’s mother works for Wal-Mart. She’s a wonderful and kind person that wouldn’t hurt a fly, so when she took the job as a store clerk a couple years ago I was a little concerned because of how I’ve heard Wal-Mart treats employees…which, to say the least, is not good.

“Sharon’s” mom has been pretty unhappy working at Walmart for a while.  None of us had any idea it was as bad as it was.  Her bosses dodn’t treat her well.  She told me about the time her blood sugar dropped; she usually keeps something on her, but this time her food was in her locker, and she knew she didn’t have time to get to it.  Next to her were crackers, so she grabbed a package and ate a couple.  She kept the uneaten crackers and was going to pay for them.  I don’t know if they saw her on camera, or what but very quickly she was being tattled on as stealing, and they wanted her fired.  It didn’t happen, but it was still a tough thing for her to go through.  Her mother doesn’t steal. This was understandable on both parts knowing that employees do steal but also that she needed somthing to keep her from fainting.

Anyway, I found out it’s way worse than this.  “Sharon’s” mom has 2 younger managers that call her stupid old white lady all the time (they are both black and she is white, if that matters). Is this reverse discrimination? Either way, it is uncalled for in this day and age. She’s been at a point now where she comes home from work, goes upstairs, sits on his bed and cries because of the verbal insults from her managers.

A while back there was an issue at the house with a bee hive.  “Sharon’s” mom was stung like 15 times just before leaving for work.  She went to work anyway (something I’d never have done!) and soon after getting there, felt like she was going to pass out.  She wound up losing control of her bodily functions and falling to the floor.  Her managers told her she had to clean up her own mess first, then she could drive herself home … which she did. (OMG!!!)

It was about a week ago when “Sharon’s” mom started feeling ’sick’ at work. Because of the torment she’s received from her managers she said her shift. It was just a few hours later when she had a heart attack. She flat-lined 8 times within the next few hours. There is a happy ending to this story in that she was not expected to live, there was no brain activity and her family was asked to sign a DNR. They waited for “Sharon” to arrive from out-of-state.

The fact that employees do steal is one thing but the brow-beating/emotional/mental abuse that “Sharon’s” mom has taken from her managers is horrible. Can she report them?  From what I understand, employees live to regret reporting superiors…BAD WALMART!!!!!

If you have family or loved one’s that work at Walmart - GET THEM OUT OF THERE!!
